As temperatures drop and the first signs of winter start to appear, your driveway deserves a little attention before the snow arrives. Here’s a pre-winter driveway checklist for you to follow:
- Inspect for Cracks and Damage: Cracks in your driveway can cause a lot of problems during the winter season. When water seeps into these cracks and freezes, it expands making the crack bigger and causing more damage. If you find any cracks, you should have them filled as soon as you can.
- Clean off Dirt and Debris: Before doing any sealing, your driveway needs to be clean so that sealant will stick to the surface and there won’t be any dirt or debris trapped underneath it.
- Apply a Quality Sealcoat: Sealing your driveway creates a protective layer that shields against moisture, salt, and freezing temperatures. November is your last chance to seal before it gets too cold.
- Protect Against Snow and Ice Damage: Once your driveway is sealed and repaired, you need to prepare for winter maintenance. It’s important that when you shovel your driveway, you use plastic shovels instead of metal shovels because the metal can scrape and damage your driveway.
