Winter brings icy driveways and slippery sidewalks. Fortunately, there are many different de-icing practices that can keep your driveway safe from damage and ice-free:
- Start with Preventative Care: The best way to de-ice your driveway is to keep the ice from forming in the first place. You should try to shovel snow before it turns into compacted ice and use a plastic shovel to avoid chipping your driveway.
- Use Safe De-icers: A lot of de-icers can damage your driveway instead of helping it. Some safe de-icers include calcium magnesium acetate, potassium chloride, and sand.
- Apply Sparingly: Less is always more when it comes to de-icers. You should only use enough to melt the ice or improve traction and reapply only if necessary.
