Asphalt is a very durable material for driveways, but can be damaged by a few things:
- Rock salt: You may be tempted to use rock salt to de-ice your driveway, but it is more damaging than it is helpful. Rock salt actually increases the amount of times water freezes and thaws on your driveway.
- Heavy objects: While your driveway is made to handle a lot of heavy objects, they aren’t indestructible. Anything that exceeds 10,000 pounds should not be put on your driveway because it is so heavy that it will cause your driveway to crack and break.
- Sharp projects: Sharp objects such as studded tires can chip away at your driveway and potentially scrape off protective coatings and sealings.
