3 Signs Your Driveway Needs to be Sealed Before Winter

Your driveway is a major part of your home so it’s important that you treat it the way you would treat the rest of your home. As the leaves begin to turn, it’s easy to overlook your driveway and focus on preparing other things for the winter season; however, winter can cause a lot of issues for your driveway that sealing could prevent. Here are 3 signs your driveway needs to be sealed:

  • Fading or Discoloration: Fading is a sign that the original protective coat has worn away due to sun exposure and traffic. Not only is it a cosmetic issue, but makes the driveway more porous which allows the driveway to absorb more water and leads to water damage underneath the surface.
  • Visible Cracks: One of the most obvious signs is visible cracks. Cracks can be really bad as they’re openings for water to seep beneath the surface and cause damage.
  • Increased Wear and Tear: Every driveway experiences wear and tear over time, but when it gets to a point that it’s more accelerated, you need to reseal your driveway. When a driveway is really run down, the binding holding the asphalt starts to fall apart causing the driveway to crack.
